The <a href="https://oliverands.com/shop/digital-school-bus-t-shirt-sewing-pattern.html">Oliver + S School bus t-shirt</a> is by far my most used pattern, I have made well over 100 at this point. I added it up once a couple years back and I was at like 80... I don't have the patience to go back and count again, ha! So you will just have to trust me.<br />

I paired the tee with the <a href="http://www.sewalittleseam.com/product/movie-night-pajamas-pdf-pattern-12-mo-12-yrs/">Sew a Little Seam Movie Night</a> Pajama bottoms you can get for free with a code from their facebook group. It does come with a shirt, but I like what I like.<br />

I also used it to make a swim top. The <a href="https://kitschy-coo.co.uk/products/little-girls-skater-dress-sewing-pattern-18m-2t-3t-4t-5y-6y-7y-8y-pdf">Kitschy Coo Skater Dress</a> is probably one of my very most used patterns. It's such a classic shape and so easy to wear! It always looks so cute on the girls.<br />

It is great to show off a print, and also very easy to customize.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrO94Wg-PMZKd2dMGTutmK81Wtns6g-1wIMC1EA45GGs-fjE0cvC4m2kaWdj01n0P_2Hgdzvt_Hm-WVVZoRCi2KxXt2PPXyBKVYoN42BZUWmS1SWaFgvJ2GwuNSQ6YVx1BQWGi_VlBm7N5/s1600/IMG_8686w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrO94Wg-PMZKd2dMGTutmK81Wtns6g-1wIMC1EA45GGs-fjE0cvC4m2kaWdj01n0P_2Hgdzvt_Hm-WVVZoRCi2KxXt2PPXyBKVYoN42BZUWmS1SWaFgvJ2GwuNSQ6YVx1BQWGi_VlBm7N5/s640/IMG_8686w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
I typically use cotton lycra for it, so many great prints and it can be hard to find great patterns to use cl on since it doesn't drape well, though as kids it doesn't matter as much. for this one I used a double brushed poly and eliminated the waist seam to change it up just a little.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWfubqOKzQjgv9x3zL_7u5uNvjRmeG9qhlWblO0nxwMmhMVLFhy2OdzueWUKXkdw5DMsP0FxRx45CU2-h7Y-Y6Dyx8x_gcVNhZYkUfcuVcJpCchtLmwpFAngFtUA0pXH2SQ14TtRHWGGbx/s1600/IMG_0020w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWfubqOKzQjgv9x3zL_7u5uNvjRmeG9qhlWblO0nxwMmhMVLFhy2OdzueWUKXkdw5DMsP0FxRx45CU2-h7Y-Y6Dyx8x_gcVNhZYkUfcuVcJpCchtLmwpFAngFtUA0pXH2SQ14TtRHWGGbx/s640/IMG_0020w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
Really though, this is their favorite one. I think at this point George probably wears it more than Izzy, but she does try to get her turn in it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnE5ew_51QccrSjdBpJ_RvdngJR-Lz8SbnCs7pKNMjG_yF9XHoGnV2PCl1nLxcqtmI_bAzEK4lriuvGXamzBPn722Gf2ufrwUM29wnKWXF_sb2zHO0WhSh-XqwlsEqcyZb7Bm6OgyADg57/s1600/IMG_0007w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnE5ew_51QccrSjdBpJ_RvdngJR-Lz8SbnCs7pKNMjG_yF9XHoGnV2PCl1nLxcqtmI_bAzEK4lriuvGXamzBPn722Gf2ufrwUM29wnKWXF_sb2zHO0WhSh-XqwlsEqcyZb7Bm6OgyADg57/s640/IMG_0007w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
This is why they love it so much! I added a full circle skirt. I really should have added some clear elastic to the waist seam, the skirt is a little heavy. I guess nothing is stopping me from adding it now, ha! Well, other than the fact they search it out and wear it every time it comes out of the dryer.brittneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02799596556725495893noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6989425057522305908.post-65732880511999941662018-04-17T23:14:00.001-06:002018-04-18T18:05:36.057-06:00International patterns. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I have recently fallen for international patterns, more specifically German. They have pretty unique designs, and with a little google translate and some basic sewing knowledge, they are very doable. Most of them don't include seam allowance so that can be a turn off for some, but I don't mind.<br />
<br />

It is a slim fit, so I sized up on this one. It has a cute cowl or hood and that front panel has pockets. He got a ton of wear from this one, and I made his bff cousin a matching one.<br />

The <a href="https://www.makerist.de/patterns/e-ebook-hoodie-henry-ette-kragen-kapuze-beanie-gr-62-170">Lolletroll Henry(ette)</a>, often called just Henry, is also quite popular on FB. It is one of my favorites so far!<br />

<br /></div>
And when it was too close to the end of the cold season to justify making another hoodie I made it as a shirt. I actually used the Oliver and S School Bus t-shirt as a base and the Henry for the colorblocking. I have seen people make the Henry as a shirt and complain the neck opening was too wide. I knew I liked the fit of the School Bus, so it was a no-brainer.<br />

I was looking for something unique to since boy's tees can be so... the same and basic... that's not a bad thing, I just wanted a "fun" sew. That's when I found the <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/398159919/raglan-sleeve-sewing-pattern-for-kids">Elle Puls Bethioua kids</a>.<br />
<br />

<br />
I thought the back was pretty cool! I'm not crazy over the fit, it feels maybe a little feminine with the curve, idk? And maybe because it is short sleeve with the curve, I'm not sure exactly what is making me think that, because I like the long sleeve on boys. That is definitely just personal preference, the pattern was excellent.<br />

George is all about the skirts! This is the <a href="https://www.makerist.de/patterns/cozy-skirt-sweat-rock-schnittmuster-und-naehanleitung">Kid5 Cozy Skirt</a>, it is a super straightforward and easy sew. She pulls it out to wear quite often.brittneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02799596556725495893noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6989425057522305908.post-69942316399908699712018-04-17T22:47:00.001-06:002018-04-17T22:47:26.696-06:00Panama tee and dress. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Abby is now in to women's sizing, so I was on the hunt for a good tee pattern for her. She still loves all the fun prints you can find on cotton lycra, but they aren't always good for t-shirts, so that was another concern when choosing a pattern for her. <br />

It is a slimmer fit tee and works perfectly with all the cotton lycra in my stash and even the stuff not so much in my stash but on a constant postal route from <a href="https://raspberrycreekfabrics.com/">Raspberry Creek Fabrics</a> << seriously, I order way too much from Diana, I need an intervention. <br />

<br />
Abby really likes the fit of these tops, they are very well worn- all of these are from early this year, so I can say that, ha!<br />
<br />
I do like to grade out one size for the waist and hips, she doesn't like her tees super tight and these are definitely on the more form fitting side. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This dress is made from double brushed poly, gotta love that drape! I was so against dbp for a while, I had bought some and it was so thin and my machine absolutely hated it. But again, enter Raspberry Creek, I ordered some from there and it was thicker and easy to sew! I love that she strives for quality, not just the cheapest. <br />
<br />
Anyway, she wears this dress nearly every Sunday and has worn it to school a couple of times, so I'll call that a win! It has been long enough that I can't remember if I shortened it. Also, I did grade out just like with the tees. She is pretty tall at this point, taller than me even, so I doubt I shortened it...<br />

It's probably time to dust off my sad little corner of the internet, I'm beginning to forget the details of things I've made over the last year. While I still document all my makes <a href="https://www.instagram.com/brittneylaidlaw/">over on instagram</a>, I don't add things like sizes I make and how much length I add for my kids. This makes my life harder when I go to make something in the next size up, haha. So here we go, I'm going to attempt to start journaling my makes again. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRK6pFD6WC8EJ8lJFBeB08AADuFRZc-nZxBQDhAZF-em9iMxzJF6ngf42JbbEiqSiG_mvVffSr2gacwqmlMrpZ1a-rNxy8iDW5hXX0RM62WaNg2XZDwKr7tc3oLCpkHyyAt2yuvBYs8dwx/s1600/IMG_9521w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRK6pFD6WC8EJ8lJFBeB08AADuFRZc-nZxBQDhAZF-em9iMxzJF6ngf42JbbEiqSiG_mvVffSr2gacwqmlMrpZ1a-rNxy8iDW5hXX0RM62WaNg2XZDwKr7tc3oLCpkHyyAt2yuvBYs8dwx/s640/IMG_9521w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
And what better way to start than with the <a href="https://oliverands.com/shop/digital-playtime-dress-tunic-leggings-sewing-pattern.html">Oliver + S Playtime Dress</a>. I made both girls a size 6 with some length added to the skirt and sleeves. The skirt is also a little more narrow than per the pattern as I didn't want to have to plaid match two side seams, then since I was making a coordinating set I wanted them to both look the same. Also, I was worried about the bulk of gathering flannel.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqFIkYF0EjqRWHwA3RWx75h2sHn7p-FcgKoV1W-UTJzSnSUwl63LqaKVJEovj4ldN7G9gOjJDxpS-RuB8GPPSiQ9FWTX5e84ZOFWUSydemar6Ky871cmricbaIdAzN7cv0M_aCFAnNtEOu/s1600/IMG_9490w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqFIkYF0EjqRWHwA3RWx75h2sHn7p-FcgKoV1W-UTJzSnSUwl63LqaKVJEovj4ldN7G9gOjJDxpS-RuB8GPPSiQ9FWTX5e84ZOFWUSydemar6Ky871cmricbaIdAzN7cv0M_aCFAnNtEOu/s640/IMG_9490w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
Speaking of flannel, both fabrics are Robert Kaufman flannels. I really can't say enough good about the RK flannel, it washes up so nicely and continues to look fresh after many, many washes. It's also super soft.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8S8Wz113hrDRQMVPbJS9YJhXKyjZK45VC-XYfNSeZVR00Ys1ghK3Jrhoq74iCJgxY-TrAem6uPZqPvz0ZONiCBt6GOU4QgmVlt-MwnYj59r7JHy-fg5pmj4g4FdRKoeXGAvaLwSK-8rYS/s1600/IMG_9509w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8S8Wz113hrDRQMVPbJS9YJhXKyjZK45VC-XYfNSeZVR00Ys1ghK3Jrhoq74iCJgxY-TrAem6uPZqPvz0ZONiCBt6GOU4QgmVlt-MwnYj59r7JHy-fg5pmj4g4FdRKoeXGAvaLwSK-8rYS/s640/IMG_9509w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
I chose to line the bodice instead of using the facings. It really is my preferred method because it's just so fast and I tend not to do the optional topstitching on this dress. <br />
<br />
The fit on them is great, I probably didn't need to add length to the skirt but at the same time I'm wondering if I should have added a smidge more to the arms for longer wear. I did a narrow hem on the sleeves so there isn't anything I can let out. The bodice fits well, it isn't restrictive at this point. This pattern seems to last for a while for these two, they are able to wear them as a tunic once they grow until the bodice is too tight. In fact, they have had some last two winters. <br />
<br />
Luckily they fit nicely because I have already started on the next two. A few years back <a href="http://sewingforfour.blogspot.com/2013/12/a-party-dress.html">I sewed sequins</a> on the Playtime following the topstitching guide and just loved the result. I was at Joann's while killing time waiting for Costco to have my photos ready and accidentally decided to replicate the dress, times two. Because twins. George and Izzy both added "pridde dress" to their Christmas list and I have a feeling that will fit the bill nicely. brittneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02799596556725495893noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6989425057522305908.post-27616908255331810382017-05-22T06:00:00.000-06:002017-05-22T08:29:34.765-06:00New swimsuits. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I recently made swimsuits for 4 of my kids, meant to do 5 but the baby's will have to wait, ha!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFoy55mxH0vYveHSbMb2mlCGCmCnbNC_AnazArkUaa9onGiwJZJySqrzmFtNbYuIHdJTyr8hCj_9Dm3IQq_40ZsWUBhzjdn-k_z4k9S5EhBlwO1RfL6PlvcantRWGy1bKduELPnD-EEqIP/s1600/IMG_9548w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFoy55mxH0vYveHSbMb2mlCGCmCnbNC_AnazArkUaa9onGiwJZJySqrzmFtNbYuIHdJTyr8hCj_9Dm3IQq_40ZsWUBhzjdn-k_z4k9S5EhBlwO1RfL6PlvcantRWGy1bKduELPnD-EEqIP/s640/IMG_9548w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
Abby is at that hard stage, she's very particular on what she likes and what she's willing to wear. She LOVES rash guards and boy shorts, so I figured this combo was sure to win her over. She also chose the main fabric, so that didn't hurt either.<br />
<br />
For the rashie I used my favorite shirt pattern for her. I have bought a rashie pattern in the past and realized it was basically a slim tee with a taller neckband. I usually choose not to do the taller neckband because I don't like the look of the way it flops, but if you want more sun coverage you can just add some height.<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://www.heyjunehandmade.com/product/camden-raglan/">Hey June Camden Raglan</a> was perfect for the task. I did add a partial lining to the front that goes a little below the armscye, I just layed the wrong side of my main fabric and wrong side of my lining together and treated it as one. I probably could have figured out a way to add some elastic to the bottom of the lining to keep it down, but for now she didn't seem to mind. She says it's very comfortable and her favorite rashie yet.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWS7wOJ8BuiO8toHDTNNG6E_Y05ZqPjYGpuVf77GVNItYIjyEHS_g5dFKUdoT-GV_Tj5Hbh2dLvRX69rZcwXoOtOr3REFAQtBg57EFGzPvLnc-v5dmM5ebygU730vDGT-lhkgANY6XYfel/s1600/IMG_9552w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWS7wOJ8BuiO8toHDTNNG6E_Y05ZqPjYGpuVf77GVNItYIjyEHS_g5dFKUdoT-GV_Tj5Hbh2dLvRX69rZcwXoOtOr3REFAQtBg57EFGzPvLnc-v5dmM5ebygU730vDGT-lhkgANY6XYfel/s640/IMG_9552w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
The bottoms are the <a href="https://jalie.com/jalie3351-swim-shorts-pattern">Jalie Swim Shorts</a>. The pattern has a great value, with 27 sizes included in one pattern. But that also came at a price so to speak, there are no layers and at times it was difficult to discern my size line. <br />
<br />
Once it was cut, though, it was smooth sailing. The instructions are well written, very to the point which I really like. The shorts are lined with a bikini style bottom, again she said she really likes these and would want another pair in the future.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYGvvaWb3KMULGgkMDlVdNalQa5yF8Qdc3npe6BzWCXA0LRcHk1ERppHqu7GpYxDVUozc7gO7EtaCTkiXlS3I5vvZBwwKDfjnvo9KCqZe5cK6mjieo5i5YriZSKsrwMaRLREt0gNa8Vr4H/s1600/IMG_9587w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYGvvaWb3KMULGgkMDlVdNalQa5yF8Qdc3npe6BzWCXA0LRcHk1ERppHqu7GpYxDVUozc7gO7EtaCTkiXlS3I5vvZBwwKDfjnvo9KCqZe5cK6mjieo5i5YriZSKsrwMaRLREt0gNa8Vr4H/s640/IMG_9587w.jpg" width="464" /></a></div>
<br />
I made this adorable little set with the <a href="https://boodesigns.com.au/products/pdf-pattern-swimmers?variant=21534447297">Boo Designs Swimmers</a>. This is definitely a favorite swim pattern of mine, I've tried many, many swim patterns and this one gets my highest recommendation. It's drafted well, instructions are great and it actually tells you to use elastic in the straps and other places it needs it, unlike other patterns. There are also loads of views included. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJIDonhDK8dr_0kb8k4sBhBUDaIhnfEXc8O045DTqHBLlFM7D4dFHNop5IfMZq3fxfqrzGvu8Te54xFcd2elAm44xxsSJr0UWwf6nZpUfEgu1VLuIMTRXxFjW4dianhGGnDTDHD81X63Bh/s1600/IMG_9590w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJIDonhDK8dr_0kb8k4sBhBUDaIhnfEXc8O045DTqHBLlFM7D4dFHNop5IfMZq3fxfqrzGvu8Te54xFcd2elAm44xxsSJr0UWwf6nZpUfEgu1VLuIMTRXxFjW4dianhGGnDTDHD81X63Bh/s640/IMG_9590w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
For this one, I chose the tankini and boy shorts. The bottoms come with an optional lining, that I always choose to use because no one wants unsightly camel toe, not even a kid.<br />
<br />
The palm fabric from this top, the starfish and sharks (boardshort) below are all from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/raspberrycreekfabric">Raspberry Creek Fabric</a>, she just got in to the swim fabric game and I have to say, it exceeded my expectations. It is nice and thick and as easy as swim knit can be to sew. My machine hates the shiny swim for whatever reason, ha! I have bought from other custom swim places and the base is thin, this one is nice and thick and so I chose not to line the top even though it is white.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcM-2Zjk7GlM7pZ2rhGhqSySgA_KbxZZe8Amk2dO5GqVZgBkJ2Ib0V4PREPAcRGblcFgvPbGHOSYPLqsNWW-hR1saan4Xaa4NHi4mBEg1n75NKqLFUB-jjsydYviF8dlqc4IDUYlUPdjEN/s1600/IMG_9614w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcM-2Zjk7GlM7pZ2rhGhqSySgA_KbxZZe8Amk2dO5GqVZgBkJ2Ib0V4PREPAcRGblcFgvPbGHOSYPLqsNWW-hR1saan4Xaa4NHi4mBEg1n75NKqLFUB-jjsydYviF8dlqc4IDUYlUPdjEN/s640/IMG_9614w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
I have been eyeing this <a href="https://jalie.com/jalie3134-womens-racerback-swimsuit-pattern">Jalie Racerback</a> for quite some time. Again, it has 27 sizes in one, so fabulous value. This one at least has the adult and kid sizes separated in to two separate files, which made it a little easier to cut my size, but still no layers.<br />
<br />

This pattern did not disappoint, I was very, very happy with my end result! <br />
<br />
If you're interested in any Jalie patterns, on their website you can download the instructions and take a peek before you buy a pattern, I thought that was pretty cool.<br />

<br />
I actually went out more than once, maybe more than twice (shhhhh!) to try for photos, that's what I get for not wanting to wait for the golden hour. So the last time we went out (all the photos above) George and Izzy wanted to switch suits, hence the child changing in the suit. <br />
<br />
I just love the lines on this suit, It would be adorable in two fabrics to show them off even more.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrxGg3WaWc7qoAGhmyWvC12JaWS1MZmz6nFosX8dDWjBK7lr8BonpWSUfZRKl3Oatzuc3_leG8Fv9k42eV-xWDU9cTR5vW_GLhzSJz2_ZU_i0tOfjxux03kWI05zn0rQket-DHZa6mI8Kx/s1600/IMG_9456w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrxGg3WaWc7qoAGhmyWvC12JaWS1MZmz6nFosX8dDWjBK7lr8BonpWSUfZRKl3Oatzuc3_leG8Fv9k42eV-xWDU9cTR5vW_GLhzSJz2_ZU_i0tOfjxux03kWI05zn0rQket-DHZa6mI8Kx/s640/IMG_9456w.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This pair, I hesitated to include it. I chose the <a href="http://www.graciousthreads.ca/product/swim-surf-shorts-pdf-pattern/">Gracious Threads Swim and Surf Shorts</a> for my shark obsessed boy. As it turns out, they ended up too tight because they are drafted for girls. There was no indication of that on the website or pattern listing, so I was quite disappointed. The only way I found out was through a post on Facebook where the designer confirmed it.<br />
<br />
The pattern itself went together alright. I really like the way the bias tape is done, it makes it less bulky as it isn't overlapped except for a very small part where you hide the raw edge. I liked the lining, I used regular swim knit instead of lining (I think she mentions to in the pattern, can't remember) because swim lining is very thin and doesn't give any support. I actually line all my suits with regular swim. I had major problems with the waistband elastic, though. You're instructed to sew 1/8" from the top, then 1/2" down and 1/2" below that. I chose to follow the 1/8" but then split the difference in the remaining waistband at 3/4". I used 1/2" elastic and could barely thread it through, my hands were so sore by the end, ha!<br />
<br />
So I grabbed some more of these sharks and the other boardshort print offered by Raspberry Creek and am on the look out for a better boardshort pattern. Maybe just a regular short with a lining?<br />
<br />

Twinsies desperately need some solids in their lives, they love to pair all sorts of patterns and colors. Typically they have leggings, a skirt, shirt and jacket basically a whole lot going on. So cue in amazing weather here and it was time to add in some solids.<br />

George is wearing a <a href="https://oliverands.com/product/OLV-OS047SB.html">School bus t-shirt</a> in a solid navy cotton lycra and a <a href="https://oliverands.com/product/OLV-OS011SA.html">Sailboat skirt</a> in a joanns bottom weight. This season's Kids Clothes Week theme is capsule wardrobe, so I am for once embracing the theme. I have a plan sketched out and plan to stick to it, though I can't guarantee there won't be a pretty dress thrown in, too, that wasn't already on the list.brittneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02799596556725495893noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6989425057522305908.post-7893066345584341892016-11-26T16:30:00.000-07:002016-11-26T16:30:06.275-07:00City Park tees and Linville rompers. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
For this <a href="http://www.heyjunehandmade.com/product/cityparktee/">City Park Tee</a> I made a size 16 as that's what she measures in to and followed Adrianna's <a href="http://www.heyjunehandmade.com/city-park-tee-gathered-dress/">gathered dress tutorial</a> but kept it at peplum length, per her request. I love the tip to nip it in at the waist, it gives it such a nice fit. This is actually her favorite thing from my recent Abby binge, it is made from brushed poly and she says it is soooooo soft.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA8QktOdoLrXZ5IprWNxp7JkqihblkbrYSImINdxsOkR2IyZ15a2enJ6M8bSijzp7b0oHKAD69i1fQYr9gQBBpc1OH-IS0VtTdWTuZ_nVIm51rKcb53Hgmvxw3guuGAHaERTSR-HY6X_B9/s1600/IMG_0205w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA8QktOdoLrXZ5IprWNxp7JkqihblkbrYSImINdxsOkR2IyZ15a2enJ6M8bSijzp7b0oHKAD69i1fQYr9gQBBpc1OH-IS0VtTdWTuZ_nVIm51rKcb53Hgmvxw3guuGAHaERTSR-HY6X_B9/s640/IMG_0205w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
This one is also a City Park made earlier in the summer from a rayon spandex. It was made during testing and the v-neck has since been raised, combined with the fact that the rs pulls down more than a cotton lycra it made it lower than it should have been. But she still wears it around the house and such.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaTDtcOD7LEKRMpwHm7zweVBa2AaE_HZAnl7ETiopxIWsQ7lHpoTSaGfGEWlwqZZ6TNOdvJO7FwLoTsSH3KN96XAyUsN5ZgRmNHYXHQUjxHjDdzkgmtJmAJBsGPB-yh7vlgibbzL-7-5CS/s1600/IMG_0239w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaTDtcOD7LEKRMpwHm7zweVBa2AaE_HZAnl7ETiopxIWsQ7lHpoTSaGfGEWlwqZZ6TNOdvJO7FwLoTsSH3KN96XAyUsN5ZgRmNHYXHQUjxHjDdzkgmtJmAJBsGPB-yh7vlgibbzL-7-5CS/s640/IMG_0239w.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This one, on the other hand, made from a cotton lycra has been one of her absolute favorite shirts. It surprised me because I didn't think she'd like the floral, but she is actually the one who picked it out!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This is a modified <a href="http://www.heyjunehandmade.com/product/linville-romper-and-dress/">Linville Romper</a>, Abby has a couple from this summer but has gone up a size, so this time I wanted to try something different. I lengthened the top to a tunic length and added a side split hem, per Adrianna's (aka, head boss lady at Hey June) advice. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg04XWT3xJleTmMSDUDJ7ECUW_yVZAJcKmfWuJ7x18BnQD3pUaKXr7_LqnC9Xm6rFLb00bOoNgqwTvY6xjtY5XNarVljMmlrPxkuamaoyGmDpKxUQhXz6CCZipXWbIQHJSfn0sJWj64Dl_J/s1600/IMG_9698w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg04XWT3xJleTmMSDUDJ7ECUW_yVZAJcKmfWuJ7x18BnQD3pUaKXr7_LqnC9Xm6rFLb00bOoNgqwTvY6xjtY5XNarVljMmlrPxkuamaoyGmDpKxUQhXz6CCZipXWbIQHJSfn0sJWj64Dl_J/s640/IMG_9698w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
There is a better shot of the hem, and a shot of her <a href="http://sewingforfour.blogspot.com/2016/11/conifer-jacket-and-vest.html">Conifer Jacket</a>- I love how so many of her patterns pair so well together.<br />
<br />
The top would have been better in a rayon or lawn, but I wasn't sure it was going to work out- so next time!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Here is a made to pattern specs Linville, I used a rayon challis for the top and a chambray for the bottom.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
She loved it and got a ton of wear out of it over the summer.<br />

We also tried out a Linville dress this summer, it didn't get as much wear due to her not loving dresses, but I like it. I want to try a pants or maxi version this winter. brittneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02799596556725495893noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6989425057522305908.post-67817252052082530692016-11-25T13:32:00.000-07:002016-11-25T13:32:53.451-07:00Laramie Shirt x2. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This pattern, ah how I love it. This is the <a href="http://www.heyjunehandmade.com/product/laramieshirt/">Laramie Shirt</a> view b in a size 16. The Laramie is basically the <a href="http://www.heyjunehandmade.com/product/cheyenne-tunic/">Cheyenne's</a> adorable little sister, and it's just as good as the Cheyenne. I wear mine waaaaay too much, so I figured I'd share the love with Abby.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDcIW90CJKK4hEPiemcTMLo_lf7ssc6DW96zZJRXU7Y-nk1jDtoEcg4phbNsIacvKYOYTKDbmCFLCrzcTF-8E428Qm4vsNYAL20d9_2ZZcO-bmNTb_JQSYFgaB7zpuicBFTXq3g6j1Xshv/s1600/IMG_9651w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDcIW90CJKK4hEPiemcTMLo_lf7ssc6DW96zZJRXU7Y-nk1jDtoEcg4phbNsIacvKYOYTKDbmCFLCrzcTF-8E428Qm4vsNYAL20d9_2ZZcO-bmNTb_JQSYFgaB7zpuicBFTXq3g6j1Xshv/s640/IMG_9651w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
And I love the way it pairs with the <a href="http://sewingforfour.blogspot.com/2016/11/conifer-jacket-and-vest.html">Conifer Vest</a>, in fact this L was made specifically to go with the vest. <br />
<br />

<br />
I also made this view A a while back, snaps at Abby's request. The shirt includes french seams so it has a nice, clean finish, I really love the way it's done.<br />

<br />
I also love Hey June's <a href="http://www.heyjunehandmade.com/product-category/juniors-patterns/">Junior's line</a> because of the slight feminie shaping she gives the patterns. I love that they aren't unisex but at the same time don't make her look too grown up because she's doing that one on her own (sob!). Another shameless plug for her sale, I get nothing from it other than maybe she'll keep putting out more amazing juniors patterns, hahaha! Anyway, until 11/27 use the code BLACKFRIDAY16 for 30% off all patterns:)brittneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02799596556725495893noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6989425057522305908.post-11129250406596050572016-11-24T22:46:00.001-07:002016-11-24T22:46:27.708-07:00Conifer jacket and vest. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I love, love love Hey June's <a href="http://www.heyjunehandmade.com/product-category/juniors-patterns/">Junior's pattern line</a>, Adrianna has done a fantastic job mixing staples with fun pieces, like this new jacket- the Conifer (link to come when it is released on Friday). In fact, after I was finished testing I decided to sew up one view of each of the patterns in the line. I had to limit myself to one view, because the little girls were complaining it hasn't been their turn for a while (I suck at keeping up the blog lately, mostly keeping to <a href="https://www.instagram.com/brittneylaidlaw/?hl=en">Instagram</a>) and Adrianna rocks at including many views in each pattern so I could have spent a whole lot more time working my way through them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikEvcwKc7X6AUzXvfxAx7IIqvNGw-ogPLeECQqpBv2001_y9_WfmPX5wqEYS3uFrd4y-yHOkgo-IjsT1HxE25W5IgM7gqDg4fvwFy-mb72ROE7Udwgeg80Uoo_lXYLrJdzfyphM0qrvXOh/s1600/IMG_9696w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikEvcwKc7X6AUzXvfxAx7IIqvNGw-ogPLeECQqpBv2001_y9_WfmPX5wqEYS3uFrd4y-yHOkgo-IjsT1HxE25W5IgM7gqDg4fvwFy-mb72ROE7Udwgeg80Uoo_lXYLrJdzfyphM0qrvXOh/s640/IMG_9696w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
So, the jacket. This is one is a size 16, when did she grow so much?! I used the regular collar and chose to omit the optional zips on the sleeves. <br />
<br />
There is a modified <a href="http://www.heyjunehandmade.com/product/linville-romper-and-dress/">Linville Romper</a> peeking out of this one.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZNGZJYZBg2yJ5NIK4y2f3JrUTMaODxOVU_9dkfw6rM9Ejmx4vfMw5w_uWpXPjLJdYkf2AHD_PnF-N__3sA08KrvzqIbVsgRWGZxPQDbHHY8xFImxsqmg6CcqJnv2QPeR3Ln3be_1Jfid3/s1600/IMG_9690w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZNGZJYZBg2yJ5NIK4y2f3JrUTMaODxOVU_9dkfw6rM9Ejmx4vfMw5w_uWpXPjLJdYkf2AHD_PnF-N__3sA08KrvzqIbVsgRWGZxPQDbHHY8xFImxsqmg6CcqJnv2QPeR3Ln3be_1Jfid3/s640/IMG_9690w.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I found this gorgeous raspberry quilted knit from Joann's and chose to use a gray thread for a little bit of a contrast and to match the zipper. I am undecided on it, but since it was a pain to unpick I just stayed with it, hahahaha!<br />
<br />
She really loves this outfit, in fact, it was hanging up waiting for a button on the Linville and she wore it to school the next morning using a wonder clip to close the back. Ben usually gets up with her and makes sure she makes it to the bus, at first I was annoyed she wore it before pictures (she broke the cardinal rule!) but then I realized it just meant she really liked it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiapyC9bO9Jnp2QSYPGxqF7I1ggfPCztLAHuwsUTjP_BDmT-I3zwK8TBQRBCnrVDbS1J7Un7nwrudThAY2H4bOLW1J9tpXQ5UcInFB8jIvtrMHOaVoIFjfugAHGMIVI2U3xbQoXxQOMew0z/s1600/IMG_9646w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiapyC9bO9Jnp2QSYPGxqF7I1ggfPCztLAHuwsUTjP_BDmT-I3zwK8TBQRBCnrVDbS1J7Un7nwrudThAY2H4bOLW1J9tpXQ5UcInFB8jIvtrMHOaVoIFjfugAHGMIVI2U3xbQoXxQOMew0z/s640/IMG_9646w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
This view is the vest (obviously) made this time in the cozy <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/471532897/solid-heather-charcoal-grey-4-way?ref=shop_home_active_10">charcoal french terry from Raspberry Creek</a>, I love this stuff so much and probably use it way too often. Wait, no, there is never enough charcoal ft in my wardrobe.<br />
<br />
For the vest I used the moto collar.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilHmdrlQ1lG4U88sBF5ZzgNCh1uUipqEgKqaTIcHKa84Q_BKTIHt_Lv8lQAKbdH9E6hy2E5AtD77Xd5izKFrPYXXfjK1to5nf4BCFK1XSI6qaauyplkfLx1ECIMwSYmyUEFzvYmDwn-gBr/s1600/IMG_9652w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilHmdrlQ1lG4U88sBF5ZzgNCh1uUipqEgKqaTIcHKa84Q_BKTIHt_Lv8lQAKbdH9E6hy2E5AtD77Xd5izKFrPYXXfjK1to5nf4BCFK1XSI6qaauyplkfLx1ECIMwSYmyUEFzvYmDwn-gBr/s640/IMG_9652w.jpg" width="404" /></a></div>
<br />
She is also a major fan of the vest, she has already worn it 3-4 times and I basically had to force her to wash it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTJBvQ43v2CkNHFC8PjcnpDl4elhmoCq80nmTgZ26VXxMlTdSe7prSMVZT2w9awVKVpv2PS3wmCGI8N9IFzFTPCvDWHhPPKmnHI1gP9bvcsQSlEy72ZLXc3yGjRU77Y0kJopNleUj6fQY5/s1600/IMG_9649w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTJBvQ43v2CkNHFC8PjcnpDl4elhmoCq80nmTgZ26VXxMlTdSe7prSMVZT2w9awVKVpv2PS3wmCGI8N9IFzFTPCvDWHhPPKmnHI1gP9bvcsQSlEy72ZLXc3yGjRU77Y0kJopNleUj6fQY5/s640/IMG_9649w.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Underneath this one is a <a href="http://www.heyjunehandmade.com/product/laramieshirt/">Laramie Shirt</a> view b (that will be eventually blogged, haha). When I made the vest this is the exact combo I had in mind, this is actually what started me down the rabbit hole of all the goodness that is HJ junior's. <br />
<br />
All Hey June patterns are on sale at 30% off until Sunday the 27th, though I absolutely think they are worth full price ;) brittneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02799596556725495893noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6989425057522305908.post-90162584222552878942016-09-21T06:00:00.000-06:002016-09-21T06:00:28.122-06:00Building Block Dress book tour<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I was so, so excited when Liesl asked me to join in on her virtual book tour. From the minute she explained what <a href="https://oliverands.com/books/OLV-OS053BBD.html">the book</a> was about and included a little preview, I knew it would be love. It's no secret I am a huge fan of customizing patterns; in fact check out the <a href="https://oliverands.com/community/list/tutorials">tutorial section on the blog</a>, I have written a few posts over there. I was so excited to learn the correct way to alter patterns, because let's be honest, I was just guessing and hoping it all worked out correctly.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVCVsA6wEmBotP1PEnM1FCYXT_khGVGw6S11RqNzzOV4LwTtzfbZ-RrGq2HnPxzNM0R5YutLV32Z-uXd1bvivDYAA0Zh53YbVCS07zQD12n2YgFBnC19I0iFeZaBPkpmHmCbQSkITf4hiG/s1600/IMG_91691.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVCVsA6wEmBotP1PEnM1FCYXT_khGVGw6S11RqNzzOV4LwTtzfbZ-RrGq2HnPxzNM0R5YutLV32Z-uXd1bvivDYAA0Zh53YbVCS07zQD12n2YgFBnC19I0iFeZaBPkpmHmCbQSkITf4hiG/s640/IMG_91691.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
As soon as I opened the first few pages, I was hooked- look at all the eye candy! The book is beautifully executed and photographed. <br />
<br />
There are quite a few pages just of inspiration. I waited until the kids were in bed then pored over every detail slowly and carefully before moving on to the next page, I wanted to take my time and take it all in.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigHdwiyk52SsGf3f50aueb3eELZbq7EGCjY6PS23XK6WuhsrdHqr0c87_ImyxUX72wfhqWRIUpDtOb3G48F1EQlQ_0VrnTsS9mUFu_XH51pWNfojpo12OzndDahVhc0XX6MwU6OhN8mbCW/s1600/IMG_91701.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigHdwiyk52SsGf3f50aueb3eELZbq7EGCjY6PS23XK6WuhsrdHqr0c87_ImyxUX72wfhqWRIUpDtOb3G48F1EQlQ_0VrnTsS9mUFu_XH51pWNfojpo12OzndDahVhc0XX6MwU6OhN8mbCW/s640/IMG_91701.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It includes the layout of instructions that we all know and love about Oliver and S. I love that it was a familiar look, because honestly I was a little nervous at first. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9pE1Se128Owezl9Fjdxw6h-fNKR82te6gpPUYGnq51NdbZQCCtowEqDySWWBhgnqRLh4YLTGY8l87E0bXGLDldym30o3QPxvaO-IJxnwwKnfhKTY4rXDflJOMURJPLHsRZlOBRIqGofOv/s1600/IMG_91711.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9pE1Se128Owezl9Fjdxw6h-fNKR82te6gpPUYGnq51NdbZQCCtowEqDySWWBhgnqRLh4YLTGY8l87E0bXGLDldym30o3QPxvaO-IJxnwwKnfhKTY4rXDflJOMURJPLHsRZlOBRIqGofOv/s640/IMG_91711.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
But then I quickly realized, if anyone was going to be able to teach me the correct ways to customize and then sew my customized pattern, it was Liesl.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhj9iU2WGLAQbzMPG8iBuQPI9kV4738_gm-t4OYKZqzu5cKyOKVuFs_2XqRMiUxVVxg7waDKObxMADW0P09DT_dMz67iol5ttIXOXEsr6q7PULZL2mF7kbBaVokFyDk7j2EUbQ3Q6oiCca8/s1600/IMG_91721.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhj9iU2WGLAQbzMPG8iBuQPI9kV4738_gm-t4OYKZqzu5cKyOKVuFs_2XqRMiUxVVxg7waDKObxMADW0P09DT_dMz67iol5ttIXOXEsr6q7PULZL2mF7kbBaVokFyDk7j2EUbQ3Q6oiCca8/s640/IMG_91721.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Each element is broke down in to it's own chapter; sleeves, silhouettes, pockets, collars and necklines, finishes: hems, closures and linings. <br />
<br />
There is so much information packed in to this book. Even if you don't have a little girl to sew for, this book would still be very useful in altering other patterns, I love that I know it will work for me long after the twins outgrow the patterns (hopefully a very long time from now, ha!)<br />

<br />
I decided first to sew just the absolute basic dress, no alterations to the pattern. Well, aside from doing elbow length sleeves, but that is so simple that I hardly can call it an alteration. I wanted to make sure the fit was what I expected (it was) and that I was familiar with the steps before moving on to more challenging details.<br />
<br />
This is the size 5 for reference, I currently make a size 5 for the twins in all my other Oliver and S patterns, also.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4n1S6emREW6NJuNqF14WVvFQ_GPBSPxs8MR-DDgtA9QtkYYx32czxeR_OQlXIhCRTE4POCPKdS_SkRMADn3Nr_JpLZV482-vunoMG7nmdnw0ZxhQckeCGvL3TMexfRjUQ7aJTTOuxSLcE/s1600/BBDtour_SewingForFourF.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="334" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4n1S6emREW6NJuNqF14WVvFQ_GPBSPxs8MR-DDgtA9QtkYYx32czxeR_OQlXIhCRTE4POCPKdS_SkRMADn3Nr_JpLZV482-vunoMG7nmdnw0ZxhQckeCGvL3TMexfRjUQ7aJTTOuxSLcE/s640/BBDtour_SewingForFourF.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Once I had a feel for the pattern and the layout of the book, I moved on.<br />
<br />
Normally when I make something, I pick out the pattern and then the fabric. This time I used the worksheet layout included in the book to really think it through, I picked out my fabrics first and then read through each chapter, picking each element carefully trying to decide which would work best to highlight my fabrics.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMSi6DTEN2ERtMRFKkUZqnq6dbbp2suu-1VgCg2YBt4e7oacPKkX-vHP6T5CeX_ub2YNOFn-Oapw29EsgwPLI6jDx8swqhBsoAggkr8QMCjhWaXv0KwaAGmp8mrEvA-bETPw6GGjbeiQfh/s1600/IMG_90481.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMSi6DTEN2ERtMRFKkUZqnq6dbbp2suu-1VgCg2YBt4e7oacPKkX-vHP6T5CeX_ub2YNOFn-Oapw29EsgwPLI6jDx8swqhBsoAggkr8QMCjhWaXv0KwaAGmp8mrEvA-bETPw6GGjbeiQfh/s640/IMG_90481.jpg" width="446" /></a></div>
<br />
Abby is on the high end of the size 12, but as soon as she saw the book she begged for me to make her something, too. She currently isn't a huge fan of dresses, so she and I chose a sleeveless tunic length, swingy top made from rayon challis. I followed the instructions on page 82 for an a-line dress but added a bit more width between the slices for even more swing, knowing my rayon challis would lay and hang nicely.<br />
<br />
It isn't easy to see in the pictures, but I actually added a half inch to the front center and cut two fronts, sewed together and then topstitched down each side to give it a fun little detail.<br />
<br />
I went to page 135 and added a key hole back opening since she isn't generally a fan of button backs, but doesn't mind a single button.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqFKeocgzZ2lQvQIkcNP5BoyA6dgybFUeuwIl8DfcT__opIOFUzHAqhpughq9UD3FjOflgfIJ_cB-y837Oo4wey6q6evdANFy1SUbXxtIHs-Bp8Z091n7qzV9KZOnpjKflUb4S4ZJ1uzUG/s1600/IMG_90831.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqFKeocgzZ2lQvQIkcNP5BoyA6dgybFUeuwIl8DfcT__opIOFUzHAqhpughq9UD3FjOflgfIJ_cB-y837Oo4wey6q6evdANFy1SUbXxtIHs-Bp8Z091n7qzV9KZOnpjKflUb4S4ZJ1uzUG/s640/IMG_90831.jpg" width="414" /></a></div>
<br />
For Elizabeth's dress, I used the basic bodice, collar and the flared gathered a-line skirt found on page 73. I love the fullness of the skirt and so does she.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw5HZ3NUpL9jEorLmf8BXxaY3OVEtgkQph5NEmxDcensH6CvrslWj756DqY3PteLNcndpyULnGFvn2Sp19XOcoTt7mq8m5MZwwCQcl_uVo_T_nCIWFnAZv3LVEb4DXNWZS1ZSK88fKNhRd/s1600/14352062_10209317914497157_4811971867067719212_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw5HZ3NUpL9jEorLmf8BXxaY3OVEtgkQph5NEmxDcensH6CvrslWj756DqY3PteLNcndpyULnGFvn2Sp19XOcoTt7mq8m5MZwwCQcl_uVo_T_nCIWFnAZv3LVEb4DXNWZS1ZSK88fKNhRd/s400/14352062_10209317914497157_4811971867067719212_o.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
For the hem, I used a gorgeous crochet edge bias tape I found on etsy. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU2SdfRD_s17ZYIDHK86XfCLZNx77iYgWUzI5DcbU3zZmKOfszUHom1FXfb-N8B28kcXNE8cdM_dNCxANUZhJHNYWJLqdLXqMfIsJtMbNbzbInbsnGB2KBOGlJNP536hU40eN1Ij7g9ePb/s1600/IMG_90931.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU2SdfRD_s17ZYIDHK86XfCLZNx77iYgWUzI5DcbU3zZmKOfszUHom1FXfb-N8B28kcXNE8cdM_dNCxANUZhJHNYWJLqdLXqMfIsJtMbNbzbInbsnGB2KBOGlJNP536hU40eN1Ij7g9ePb/s640/IMG_90931.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I used the bell sleeve found on page 57 and added an elastic casing to the hem, I love the look it gives.<br />
<br />
The back is a button down, per the basic building block dress.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiguOwTddhQ5aBWgDSJBrdfpqR-F4DWwbZqIVvVTtKN-Jqbqanv6thKhbFl3LrL_Bt11aqb3iqMJqNmOdtlw9BtizDV5j818OJ0pwArndbP3EiN56dWZfCrYwRIioqc_mwj4cMRCY9-rRNT/s1600/IMG_91051.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiguOwTddhQ5aBWgDSJBrdfpqR-F4DWwbZqIVvVTtKN-Jqbqanv6thKhbFl3LrL_Bt11aqb3iqMJqNmOdtlw9BtizDV5j818OJ0pwArndbP3EiN56dWZfCrYwRIioqc_mwj4cMRCY9-rRNT/s640/IMG_91051.jpg" width="386" /></a></div>
<br />
For Georgia's dress I used the empire waist found on page 57 with the flared a-line skit on page 72.<br />
<br />
I again used the keyhole opening on the back, found on page 135, and added lace to the hem of the skirt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8T5bnrE02iduL1rfhfuvsyExW61NRyBVejkveJ7mlbPhj73_qIlja6Tj2rgLp5FKi4EZaaSdLtU2IYG0LYWC0eR6WsHG5XTphdBeB9YZqUxNIR_a9OxfF_q1d1U9seqGvSokrIEP7Cjv4/s1600/IMG_91241.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8T5bnrE02iduL1rfhfuvsyExW61NRyBVejkveJ7mlbPhj73_qIlja6Tj2rgLp5FKi4EZaaSdLtU2IYG0LYWC0eR6WsHG5XTphdBeB9YZqUxNIR_a9OxfF_q1d1U9seqGvSokrIEP7Cjv4/s640/IMG_91241.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I actually really like the bias binding for necklines lately, so that is the method I used for all three makes.<br />
<br />
I chose elbow length sleeves for this dress also, I find that my girls like to wear them year round, so I figured I get to use the cute elements like an elastic casing or a sleeve cuff (it's hard to see on this one, but it's there) and they will get loads of use. <br />
<br />
I also cut a piece a couple inches wide and added a narrow white bias tape to the edges to tie in the tiny bit of white in the print and the lace on the hem.<br />
<br />
So basically to sum this all up, I really, really love this book. I have a stack of papers already filled out waiting to be sewn in to reality and that is just touching the surface of the possibility that comes from the book. The book is so well written, not that I would expect anything less from Liesl and O+S, but I feel it will become a very valuable tool in any sewing library whether you sew for a little girl or yourself. brittneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02799596556725495893noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6989425057522305908.post-62392765131560757542016-08-10T20:26:00.000-06:002016-08-10T20:27:13.963-06:00First day.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I realized today the big kids start school tomorrow, Abby has her outfit chosen, but Jack didn't. I haven't made him anything for a while because he still fits most of his handmades, but I figured the first day of school deserved something new.<br />

<br />
I pulled out a couple twill colors and paired them with a couple of knit cuts and let him choose, he picked well.<br />
<br />
The shirt is the Oliver and S <a href="http://oliverands.com/product/OLV-OS047SB.html">School Bus T-shirt</a>, my go-to, in a size 8 with a little bit of length added.<br />
<br />

<br />
The pants are the <a href="http://oliverands.com/product/OLV-OS027AS.html">After-school pants</a>, also a size 8, but I added 2" to the length. He is only 1/2" shy of the top height in the 8 and I want them to last a while.<br />

<br />
I have used this combination of fabrics a couple of times recently (not blogged yet, but <a href="https://www.instagram.com/brittneylaidlaw/">grammed</a>) and thought it would be perfectly perfect with the color of Izzy's hair. The color of the blue/green is hard to capture, it is a little more greenish in real life.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3zo0HWflL1_BUHU9sYJGeYvF-m59Ha_QxyBzUgYNNu46-gQtr07tQ0OZykNfZYxpu_taXY8QzgTwcjRnLT4E5AB27Oh-Kxz17XjCu3ZSrSCvHeCa5vukKMZA6IhIUFoU5VEaw_PXKOkJ6/s1600/IMG_8339w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="408" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3zo0HWflL1_BUHU9sYJGeYvF-m59Ha_QxyBzUgYNNu46-gQtr07tQ0OZykNfZYxpu_taXY8QzgTwcjRnLT4E5AB27Oh-Kxz17XjCu3ZSrSCvHeCa5vukKMZA6IhIUFoU5VEaw_PXKOkJ6/s640/IMG_8339w.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I used <a href="https://oliverands.com/community/blog/2016/04/pleated-fairy-tale-bodice.html">this tutorial</a> on the Oliver and S blog to add a cheater pleated bodice to my <a href="http://oliverands.com/product/OLV-OS045HS.html">Hide + Seek dress</a>. I like the result, even if it did make things a little bulky.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTCLzOO_2uOuKQXyKeTGKoAp2PgRgUsq2R3ajTXfU1kF4UhyYeRFlhS_x8vZBL_-GenkKRui629h03QZtMiIMkzas64bpu821YJti40FwTFEFiOzvCyUEhbb0FiC8UworQqZiG2gEBwjpS/s1600/IMG_8334w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTCLzOO_2uOuKQXyKeTGKoAp2PgRgUsq2R3ajTXfU1kF4UhyYeRFlhS_x8vZBL_-GenkKRui629h03QZtMiIMkzas64bpu821YJti40FwTFEFiOzvCyUEhbb0FiC8UworQqZiG2gEBwjpS/s640/IMG_8334w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
They still wear <a href="http://sewingforfour.blogspot.com/2015/01/print-mixing.html">their other Hide + Seek</a>, it is so faded and soft at this point (and getting too short) so I knew it would soon need to be replaced. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAB0FL6hXzASKjJgA4z-CkGx3OHytEFUCUynzs8_smu4IJ5RxihgKqKx2V3UDVJSkiiLvx7fVs2epqw8qmNk1rC0ioKCoFTBBbITjEiz7a8d7N6yeb8GaQz8IWwuQtiem30L8ctzLTqHRW/s1600/IMG_8336w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAB0FL6hXzASKjJgA4z-CkGx3OHytEFUCUynzs8_smu4IJ5RxihgKqKx2V3UDVJSkiiLvx7fVs2epqw8qmNk1rC0ioKCoFTBBbITjEiz7a8d7N6yeb8GaQz8IWwuQtiem30L8ctzLTqHRW/s640/IMG_8336w.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I just love all the details in this pattern and I love that it seems to fit for so long, ha! <br />
<br />
This time around I made a straight size 5, no modifications aside from the pleated bodice.<br />

<br />
Abby is headed to 6th grade in a few days, that seems so crazy to me! I figured it was about time to fulfill some of her requests (the paint splatter blouse) and finish up a few UFOs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghAE02ZvN399CYwz57xBE8LqMeMCn5HR9fLbLcL5sQBfpSKjPtIRbNcBeXYZpHr259CL8hKEW4gIj6Hg8PK9a6x_q7ZDWltqu0zM8NjsiRwtmKphNy-I6awmEd-drMdFk9CKp-H1TUQ5yB/s1600/IMG_8320w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghAE02ZvN399CYwz57xBE8LqMeMCn5HR9fLbLcL5sQBfpSKjPtIRbNcBeXYZpHr259CL8hKEW4gIj6Hg8PK9a6x_q7ZDWltqu0zM8NjsiRwtmKphNy-I6awmEd-drMdFk9CKp-H1TUQ5yB/s640/IMG_8320w.jpg" width="440" /></a></div>
<br />
I used the <a href="http://oliverands.com/product/OLV-OS025CPD.html">Class Picnic Blouse</a> in a size 12. She is a little above the size 12 for her chest, but this one is nice and roomy so I didn't hesitate when she requested this pattern. I added 2 1/2" to the bottom of the blouse, and kept the original hem depth.<br />
<br />
I added a piece of dainty lace in the front yoke of this oh so soft Robert Kaufman floral lawn. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvFxa176fUY08YxGrK0df_54LrR2Jtu95nSfjEoWEguj5qm2BmzZU_TQV_GWGlojIGhwBXELZiD6W6Xa2mHVI-NAEkUleEkv6KrrMtQRc2_TkZmJNmL58S06G_UGjaDim7GKuWUaRTmSCY/s1600/IMG_8314w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvFxa176fUY08YxGrK0df_54LrR2Jtu95nSfjEoWEguj5qm2BmzZU_TQV_GWGlojIGhwBXELZiD6W6Xa2mHVI-NAEkUleEkv6KrrMtQRc2_TkZmJNmL58S06G_UGjaDim7GKuWUaRTmSCY/s640/IMG_8314w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
I picked up this Art Gallery from my LQS at least a year ago, maybe more. She has been asking for something made from it as soon as I brought it home. I hesitated to make her something from it, because she wasn't a fan of handmade there for a while, and especially not anything made in woven.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVg6UTTw_XN3sUt-C6pVveZGucTc66Udf6Pk-nC8IAqVeF_9012jcAfKqmLRCgOhTlZMJsQybNJyKqNlIGIDAaEWc7_X8mZk4Fj3lIRuANHLo7aNH-HheIVEhiURivp-OTo3-C7NHLkd-E/s1600/IMG_8316w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVg6UTTw_XN3sUt-C6pVveZGucTc66Udf6Pk-nC8IAqVeF_9012jcAfKqmLRCgOhTlZMJsQybNJyKqNlIGIDAaEWc7_X8mZk4Fj3lIRuANHLo7aNH-HheIVEhiURivp-OTo3-C7NHLkd-E/s640/IMG_8316w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
The last couple of months she has decided having mom-made clothes is actually pretty cool, because then she doesn't show up to school in the same top as anyone else. So I decided it was time to make her request.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOaSTlw8CN2swV4XS52iBi_cwlMZN5xH_3H01-CTghF-scHezs9w7F5KaxYg6SkPcXzJWkKFTpHs-5kGg9QLxkWak9Z_8CDkUv7PGnmuhqMMIEtWk1gy9GZ-Mrc3JG9XslmbDyK-p2tPnp/s1600/IMG_8317w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOaSTlw8CN2swV4XS52iBi_cwlMZN5xH_3H01-CTghF-scHezs9w7F5KaxYg6SkPcXzJWkKFTpHs-5kGg9QLxkWak9Z_8CDkUv7PGnmuhqMMIEtWk1gy9GZ-Mrc3JG9XslmbDyK-p2tPnp/s640/IMG_8317w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
I really love these two on her, and I am really sad these will be the last two she gets now that she has sized out of the pattern.<br />

I have been working on Abby's back to school wardrobe (T minus 21 days until the kids go back) and the <a href="http://www.heyjunehandmade.com/product/morrison-tee/">Morrison Tee</a> came along at the perfect time. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDwmq5d6TDE2v_KHbyAvKDSSy0FIF3bWbqdoJ9t4gEdZCbeJI0rnpN9UTLNJ-w00EPPRG-aZcuP9pNtGyQ60gP4X_p3aKw5mhPkRDeLHW7To29By9n-mryQtZWHiQGK_yg5zIPtaJOxZkC/s1600/IMG_0846w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDwmq5d6TDE2v_KHbyAvKDSSy0FIF3bWbqdoJ9t4gEdZCbeJI0rnpN9UTLNJ-w00EPPRG-aZcuP9pNtGyQ60gP4X_p3aKw5mhPkRDeLHW7To29By9n-mryQtZWHiQGK_yg5zIPtaJOxZkC/s640/IMG_0846w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
This view is hands down the quickest and easiest. Cap sleeve, regular hem. I think I knocked it out in twenty minutes, granted that didn't include pattern taping and cutting.<br />
<br />
I bought this fabric because I loved it at first sight, but I didn't think I could pull it off, haha! So I crossed my fingers Abby would say yes to it, it turns out she loves it and this is her new favorite shirt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzSgWgE7Po9wOfy-oEePe_T8LZXzAki5pP7Dx2F-YA2kxhqtCQxk9ZEKQ06j_gnlFbqDmIUyvitO9gVSLJBxBSJdMqzq-gcGWOuZqfFiALHOgTmZEkpomwBzp16XkmYDGH-IS_lqUbs0YN/s1600/IMG_0850w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzSgWgE7Po9wOfy-oEePe_T8LZXzAki5pP7Dx2F-YA2kxhqtCQxk9ZEKQ06j_gnlFbqDmIUyvitO9gVSLJBxBSJdMqzq-gcGWOuZqfFiALHOgTmZEkpomwBzp16XkmYDGH-IS_lqUbs0YN/s640/IMG_0850w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
I love the boxy look on the profile of this pattern.<br />
<br />

<br />
For my records, I made her a size 14 and that's exactly what she measured in to for chest and height.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWHST6C7vCW0X-Iunr3EZwQCG8U46pfik3r65esjchakvJr0Ga2RiIhOSHZVoctzRVv2aM3LeZEeg9_oZIyPvMPb272hv_Xdak7Sb9C3SklwbE2AGKIp9ltm4wwqaTtG8yWEW8LzxdCAQU/s1600/IMG_0854w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWHST6C7vCW0X-Iunr3EZwQCG8U46pfik3r65esjchakvJr0Ga2RiIhOSHZVoctzRVv2aM3LeZEeg9_oZIyPvMPb272hv_Xdak7Sb9C3SklwbE2AGKIp9ltm4wwqaTtG8yWEW8LzxdCAQU/s640/IMG_0854w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
The tie didn't grab me at first, but Abby wanted one with it, and I wanted to try out the genius facing Adrianna came up with for it. It worked out perfectly and gave it a nice finish on the inside, too, because I know it wont always be tied perfectly and the inside is surely going to be seen.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />

<br />
Abby designed this one on her own, well, the fabric and view. She requested the hi lo hem to go with the tie.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This last one is a super soft knit I actually found at walmart for like $1/yard a long time ago. I bought so much of it, hahaha! So I took a chance on this color without asking her, but she loves it. <br />
<br />
P.S. Not affiliated in any way other than selfishly wanting Adrianna to design allllll the junior patterns, but her whole junior line is on sale through the 25th, no code necessary. <a href="http://www.heyjunehandmade.com/product-category/juniors-patterns/">Here's the link to her line.</a> I have made all of them so far and Abby has worn each of them to death. brittneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02799596556725495893noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6989425057522305908.post-25247732457842362812016-06-28T22:40:00.002-06:002016-06-28T22:40:43.194-06:00Classic picnic.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

They are <a href="http://oliverands.com/product/OLV-OS025CPD.html">Classic Picnic blouses</a>, both in a straight size 5. Iz measures in, and George is just under a 5. I love this pattern but it has been forever since I've made them. I love that these tops seem to last forever, Abby wore her last one for two years. <br />

Both of these were made with Art Gallery prints, I really love the feel and they have the cutest prints.<br />

I don't recall how I ran across the <a href="http://shop.truebias.com/product/mini-sutton-blouse">mini sutton blouse</a> but I found it recently and couldn't stop thinking about it, so I finally gave in and bought it. <br />
<br />
I made a size 5, Izzy (not pictured) measured right in to the 5 and George is a little bit under. I need to try it on Iz before I cut another one, but she fell asleep after dinner so that was a no-go tonight.<br />

<br />
It is a really simple pattern to put together, even still I managed to make a bunch of stupid mistakes. <br />
<br />
The sleeves and neck are finished with bias tape and there are instructions for french seams on the shoulder and front. <br />

I didn't get a great picture of the buttons, but I used these cute black and white stripe buttons, a subtle pattern mixing that makes me happy. brittneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02799596556725495893noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6989425057522305908.post-45014836079462500432016-06-07T18:10:00.000-06:002016-06-07T18:10:13.591-06:00Charlie. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I should call this dress #madeforkidsmonth made me do it. I saw the Mingo + Grace <a href="http://www.mingoandgrace.com/shop/charlie">Charlie dress</a> pop up a couple of times already and loved it immediately. But I wasn't sure I 'needed' another pattern. I saw a gorgeous chambray version and was sold. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used some gorgeous Woodland Clearing lawn I picked up from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/raspberrycreekfabric">Raspberry Creek Fabric.</a> Diana was kind enough to bring it in when I requested it, and I have been hoarding it waiting for the perfect project. </div>

<br />
I made a size 5, Iz is just starting to measure in to a 5 in some patterns, and things lasting longer is never a bad thing. <br />
<br />
On the hanger I wasn't too sure I liked the dress, but once she put it on it was love. I love the way it swings and moves.<br />
<br />

<br />
I did change up a few things, mostly construction to give it a cleaner finish and I made the bias tape 1 1/2" rather than the 1" suggested, personal preference things. I definitely plan to make this one again, though. <br />

<br />
I made the square neck dress from <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Happy-Homemade-Chic-Designs-Unique-Just/dp/4805312866/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1464216736&sr=8-2&keywords=happy+homemade">happy homemade</a> <a href="http://sewingforfour.blogspot.com/2014/12/dress-b.html">a while back</a> and loved it. It has long since been outgrown, so it was time for another one. <br />
<br />
This is the size 4-6 in a Robert Kaufman gingham. I originally bought the gingham thinking of a top for me, but it is heavier than I thought it would be, so it wouldn't work for what I wanted. But, it is perfect for this little dress.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsV-ZP9RvsuJLX6rFtirSNClHXRZAPjQZ2b-HGgmTwwkQIIUfUEBBwZFpqznQ7DzFD9yC4YzBEs6S9PaYg2M9QwxHmSIjZ5uJXMEpO7wGnkKwoKOqFxvQMTylvSCEp1PXmxFnDmb6_R3mZ/s1600/IMG_0179w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsV-ZP9RvsuJLX6rFtirSNClHXRZAPjQZ2b-HGgmTwwkQIIUfUEBBwZFpqznQ7DzFD9yC4YzBEs6S9PaYg2M9QwxHmSIjZ5uJXMEpO7wGnkKwoKOqFxvQMTylvSCEp1PXmxFnDmb6_R3mZ/s640/IMG_0179w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
Some days I get loads of adorable photos in all angles, and other days I am lucky to come out with one out of fifty. So, this will have to suffice, haha.<br />
<br />
The only thing I may change next time, is to make the bias binding around the arm holes and back opening a little wider. It says to cut it out one inch wide, and it gives a beautiful, dainty look, but it is pretty fiddly. Even adding just a half inch would be a lot easier to work with, I think.brittneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02799596556725495893noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6989425057522305908.post-90100289818600234972016-05-24T20:56:00.000-06:002016-05-24T21:17:26.550-06:00Biscuits. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I made a bunch of graphics up last week, Abby promptly claimed this one as her own. She loves the song and thinks the saying is hilarious.<br />

She is on the verge of <a href="http://sewingforfour.blogspot.com/2015/07/messy-hair.html">outgrowing her other pairs</a> of <a href="http://www.purlsoho.com/create/2014/07/24/corinnes-thread-city-gym-shorts-for-all-ages/">City Gym Shorts</a> so new ones were in order. I was debating what to do, she is out of the kid sizing, but not yet in the women's sizes. I taped both sets together to compare the biggest kid size and smallest women's size and noticed there wasn't a ton of difference, so I took a chance on the smallest women's. The fit really well! She is thrilled and has requested more for the summer.<br />

The shirt is currently in testing, but it is excellent. It is from <a href="http://www.heyjunehandmade.com/">Hey June</a> and is basically the <a href="http://www.heyjunehandmade.com/product/union-st-tee/">Union's </a>little sister. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I flipped through my <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Happy-Homemade-Chic-Designs-Unique-Just/dp/4805312866/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1464118938&sr=8-2&keywords=happy+homemade">Happy Homemade</a> determined to make something, I made the <a href="http://sewingforfour.blogspot.com/2014/12/dress-b.html">square neck blouse</a> a few years ago and then set the book aside. It was time to take a look again. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I picked the Ribbon Tied Blouse, view C. I made a size 4-6 in a light and airy Art Gallery print. I love the feel of these fabrics, and they are a lot lighter than regular quilting cottons, so they are nice to use for garments. Well, at least for kids.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisgbj1-vWguc2nc1pcrQjazbZmMHK0dFG2EYQGYjTThWY78LL18_KaNNBRnyN7etsH9tfh99cbhyphenhyphenJ1kgRdfnVsjKTxrFmFNeiDdE4277e1cevFnzKDfRrTtbgzMaQvx5Jir3g4knDeRhJx/s1600/IMG_0063w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisgbj1-vWguc2nc1pcrQjazbZmMHK0dFG2EYQGYjTThWY78LL18_KaNNBRnyN7etsH9tfh99cbhyphenhyphenJ1kgRdfnVsjKTxrFmFNeiDdE4277e1cevFnzKDfRrTtbgzMaQvx5Jir3g4knDeRhJx/s640/IMG_0063w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
The front has quite a bit of gathering, but the back is just barely gathered. The sleeves are also slightly gathered, giving them a cute little puffy shape.<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I love the silhouette of the blouse. Iz was very excited to see it and wear it right away. <br />
<br />
I also paired it with some well loved Oliver and S Puppet Show Shorts. I will be so sad when they size out of this pattern.<br />

<br />
<br />
I have been sewing quite a bit of knits lately (documented on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/brittneylaidlaw/">Instagram</a> since I am horrible at blogging lately), I was dying for a nice woven sew. <br />
<br />

<br />
I this gorgeous Art Gallery I found in a local shop. I have long loved this one and was so excited to see it in person.<br />
<br />
I made an Oliver and S <a href="http://oliverands.com/product/OLV-OS042PTD.html">Playtime dress</a> in a size 5 with some mods. I left off the sleeves and lined the bodice, I love this one as a summer dress. Even though I am still sewing the girls a size 4 in most things, I find this one can be a little tight to get on and off at this point. Elizabeth is on the verge of a 5, and I figured a little big is never a bad thing with the rate kids grow.<br />

I have managed to misplace my buttonhole foot, so snaps it was. Turns out it was practically fate, I had the almost exact green snaps in my stash.<br />

I recently tested Hey June's newest top, the <a href="http://www.heyjunehandmade.com/product/9054/">Santa Fe top</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzp2OxmDDP-onrKO__ItiA5LmnN5n5pa1N-QjQ5UCHnt-QsgSSNc2q2_XEz-uS1EyOXTzg4JXJFkC4z164C9b7Z2G5kb3v07n_8kOhJO5HptFaWExtUhbXS85-kfTyL2zVMFcCtAZZwrzb/s1600/wIMG_0925.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzp2OxmDDP-onrKO__ItiA5LmnN5n5pa1N-QjQ5UCHnt-QsgSSNc2q2_XEz-uS1EyOXTzg4JXJFkC4z164C9b7Z2G5kb3v07n_8kOhJO5HptFaWExtUhbXS85-kfTyL2zVMFcCtAZZwrzb/s640/wIMG_0925.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
I made a size XL. I measured between the XL and 1X for bust, but per pattern instructions, I sized down. The hip and waist measurements aren't *as* important in this pattern being it is nice and flowy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhraDTJM-6RQSaXIELrLJp6GpFKuU6MFLF2qEOlh2pzA7TsHemdd7CL4nxnkrnbw6_UWONSfI0CwQobaKgSdKV7rXvfltp1_FVI1K7Crs79OPwVV7wFOyBYqhhrKtgOsAtfDOJPwc8AFOQw/s1600/wIMG_0926.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhraDTJM-6RQSaXIELrLJp6GpFKuU6MFLF2qEOlh2pzA7TsHemdd7CL4nxnkrnbw6_UWONSfI0CwQobaKgSdKV7rXvfltp1_FVI1K7Crs79OPwVV7wFOyBYqhhrKtgOsAtfDOJPwc8AFOQw/s640/wIMG_0926.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
The top is perfect in rayon blends. This one is a rayon spandex blend, it is so soft and the drape is perfect. <br />
<br />
There are 6 views included in the pattern, two tanks with slim straps, two tanks with wider straps and two tees with dolman sleeves and a cuff.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqHqWqsXfdm3WNVbAJkH0GxYo4XXbbRHK9huXV5jvM7MAXXrzJYmV23D2nsmA0XBnksmqTegelGyeeVi5FjlsxlBtnsIT_NbLbnEQ96514cM8wrnIkoa8K7uWMvPjgpc5M8KXkIoqbVyFd/s1600/wIMG_0928.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqHqWqsXfdm3WNVbAJkH0GxYo4XXbbRHK9huXV5jvM7MAXXrzJYmV23D2nsmA0XBnksmqTegelGyeeVi5FjlsxlBtnsIT_NbLbnEQ96514cM8wrnIkoa8K7uWMvPjgpc5M8KXkIoqbVyFd/s640/wIMG_0928.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
This is a view C with the center seams omitted, per the pattern instructions.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6t3JnNoH5zny8zy44anPqK7_8nOWSWl9lp35ryS100oYvyf8axUOBBUHQZ7_7pGxXbTEElTr25XR8L0DHkJdpqdBgwFPrhb8KuFQ_FW3RuykMxlnwd71R230hKlMdF1BVcNkGbNeaOueC/s1600/wIMG_0907.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6t3JnNoH5zny8zy44anPqK7_8nOWSWl9lp35ryS100oYvyf8axUOBBUHQZ7_7pGxXbTEElTr25XR8L0DHkJdpqdBgwFPrhb8KuFQ_FW3RuykMxlnwd71R230hKlMdF1BVcNkGbNeaOueC/s640/wIMG_0907.jpg" width="428" /></a></div>
<br />
This is also a view C, I made it exactly per the pattern and used the center seams with the optional topstitching.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK_LPbeAwML8EDXNlqk9x9394R-yLxcH0dHWqpI2H-GOl-FcIIRnHsr_1Za8TUbnziOd2KvcSbnN-6BFcg0qBTdD47bepvp6Cbj3AlPb7rTfpFO97Xa-TnYoHOycoEMUy0c-VnvLD0ID2F/s1600/wIMG_0884.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK_LPbeAwML8EDXNlqk9x9394R-yLxcH0dHWqpI2H-GOl-FcIIRnHsr_1Za8TUbnziOd2KvcSbnN-6BFcg0qBTdD47bepvp6Cbj3AlPb7rTfpFO97Xa-TnYoHOycoEMUy0c-VnvLD0ID2F/s640/wIMG_0884.jpg" width="590" /></a></div>
<br />
The neckband was a new to me method, and I really quite liked it. I was a little leery of it at first, but I really love it and plan to try it on the Union next.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE1orCaiqjEiR1BbOS7Jm5Otgo0NPi7IdkI1gdAcJY6etBeNDi1lV0LT68uwYbyIDRLe-9kWV8etkW-Qt2_w9LD0IHL_mhcIo3z_yUJAAHQik0399Nsrmo7VN4978vursGwUZgseFGkEq8/s1600/wIMG_0960.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE1orCaiqjEiR1BbOS7Jm5Otgo0NPi7IdkI1gdAcJY6etBeNDi1lV0LT68uwYbyIDRLe-9kWV8etkW-Qt2_w9LD0IHL_mhcIo3z_yUJAAHQik0399Nsrmo7VN4978vursGwUZgseFGkEq8/s640/wIMG_0960.jpg" width="410" /></a></div>
<br />
This is a view F, the blue doesn't have the ideal drape. I was in a hurry and didn't really think through my fabric choice. But I absolutely plan to try again, the sides and back are really cute on this one, though I didn't get a picture of them... oops... but since this is where I document all my makes (eventually) it is being included.brittneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02799596556725495893noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6989425057522305908.post-53175189524400130792016-04-18T22:13:00.000-06:002016-04-18T22:16:29.058-06:00Triangles. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
If you follow me on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/brittneylaidlaw/">Instagram</a>, you know I am a huge fan of <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/RaspberryCreekFabric?ref=l2-shopheader-name">Raspberry Creek Fabric</a>. Diana is super sweet, and amazing to buy from. Her fabrics are great prices and she ships suuuuper fast (and always refunds shipping overages!). We were chatting recently and she asked if I would like to sew up some of her <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/288162179/grey-and-white-geometric-abstract?ref=shop_home_listings">triangle</a> strike offs from her in-house <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/raspberrycreekfabric?section_id=7158268">Club Fabrics</a>. I, of course, jumped at the chance. Her club line is so, so good. It is a great weight and washes up so nice. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3E0j6HGsFD2cEozPYsfilR_UgsucNT_Ohr18w5EqhW9J4-EQ_3O3WylxHWg1IdaviajRhDk_7TUzRUyIYfSYkLp9jmEC5Q1nBoVTO26zPrZa6NDgi3fHlZOwyX_p-88O21-TACF6i3dXE/s1600/IMG_0428w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3E0j6HGsFD2cEozPYsfilR_UgsucNT_Ohr18w5EqhW9J4-EQ_3O3WylxHWg1IdaviajRhDk_7TUzRUyIYfSYkLp9jmEC5Q1nBoVTO26zPrZa6NDgi3fHlZOwyX_p-88O21-TACF6i3dXE/s640/IMG_0428w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
So I decided to make Jack a color blocked <a href="http://oliverands.com/product/OLV-OS047SB.html">School Bus T-shirt</a>. I cut the front of the shirt just under the arm pit and added seam allowance to the bottom of the shirt and cut section, sewed them together and then sewed the shirt like normal. This is a size 8.<br />
<br />
The olive, charcoal and white (below) solids are all also from Raspberry Creek. Again, they are a great weight and I haven't had any pilling or fading even after washing a ton. I mean, a ton. I have been using the solids for months now and haven't had any problems. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
For Sam, I used the <a href="http://oliverands.com/product/OLV-OS035FS.html">Field Trip Raglan</a> in a size 2T and added some HTV to the front. As soon as I saw the triangles, I knew they just had to become a FTR. <br />
<br />
Since I went the color blocking route on both these tees, I have enough left to make something else. I am thinking maybe a pair of capri leggings for the twins...brittneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02799596556725495893noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6989425057522305908.post-78912426093515740932016-04-12T21:29:00.002-06:002016-04-12T21:29:35.136-06:00A pair of Playtimes. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgWHYHIR3CfsZzWYnU1KLYZNqZ9hzDEo6J8lnRUis2cOMkSJ2_oj5c-hYBdwSY9XmCP_Zri-SRSqaHjMLxgPvvUB2AtVnfk7N8WXnLJsJia7_IbDVT3xaUEr7RZuPGD2ZsmTv4Mzjb6gs2/s1600/IMG_9208w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgWHYHIR3CfsZzWYnU1KLYZNqZ9hzDEo6J8lnRUis2cOMkSJ2_oj5c-hYBdwSY9XmCP_Zri-SRSqaHjMLxgPvvUB2AtVnfk7N8WXnLJsJia7_IbDVT3xaUEr7RZuPGD2ZsmTv4Mzjb6gs2/s640/IMG_9208w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
Continuing on with projects sewn but not blogged, two sets of <a href="http://oliverands.com/product/OLV-OS042PTD.html">Playtime Dresses and leggings</a>. I was contacted in December by Danielle, the owner of Whimsical fabric, to see if I was interested in stitching up and photographing a few sample kits for an upcoming sew-along she was running. I said of course, and she sent me the fabric for these two sets. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO9xKSDmyMGr4EC0QmncvxFJJoSXQL2VGz5yQ4BiqiPgaZnix_VqLkO8-QhmB9S5QlsWcC18cxZ6h1-GpF1YxsMRNpbOxdY8IAhDwBo9Q8GmwAZog8saCgpGlnmB-h14n5nx7TJ5dEgaLN/s1600/IMG_9228w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO9xKSDmyMGr4EC0QmncvxFJJoSXQL2VGz5yQ4BiqiPgaZnix_VqLkO8-QhmB9S5QlsWcC18cxZ6h1-GpF1YxsMRNpbOxdY8IAhDwBo9Q8GmwAZog8saCgpGlnmB-h14n5nx7TJ5dEgaLN/s640/IMG_9228w.jpg" width="460" /></a></div>
<br />
Though I have made the Playtime many, many times before I hadn't made them in knit before. I didn't even think that they would fit a little bigger than the woven ones. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivMEY0XAEfRkJt6y8CmouXbRssRcZ6q534b-oLo6kbc-9Ms9Q4RVb3aGmOReKRGaK8qY_LKV56HMqmZE7vd4YperDftrG71k9n4oPH9pC0QsaOZyQ8XbgQwq8ztT6nv3dg6ZjqRjxbBWbf/s1600/IMG_9234w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivMEY0XAEfRkJt6y8CmouXbRssRcZ6q534b-oLo6kbc-9Ms9Q4RVb3aGmOReKRGaK8qY_LKV56HMqmZE7vd4YperDftrG71k9n4oPH9pC0QsaOZyQ8XbgQwq8ztT6nv3dg6ZjqRjxbBWbf/s640/IMG_9234w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
Both the tops and bottoms are a size 4, the leggings I added a couple of inches to for longer wear.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifn-TToO9oUBMwSQH7MgqgimLP5FcF5IWne714WhkDQme8dG3HYEUj_Vz5DWx-ug-8XOH27pAcX44xPW1-CYYnQ4Dh3JCnILN-RmFRBveNK95EAxsW2fhl52K98BW8dJHVWqifRTgzgePh/s1600/IMG_9244w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifn-TToO9oUBMwSQH7MgqgimLP5FcF5IWne714WhkDQme8dG3HYEUj_Vz5DWx-ug-8XOH27pAcX44xPW1-CYYnQ4Dh3JCnILN-RmFRBveNK95EAxsW2fhl52K98BW8dJHVWqifRTgzgePh/s640/IMG_9244w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
The blue dress I used white stitching and topstitched the neckline collar and the back detail. For this cream dress I used orange. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbqqh11InxF3TAVEZjc_o5yafE5CHTO3KXA9yXCpKlrM9CeTdE8YMEPuWQXXBqm8pWwwmyIFQSFhhSrjxvAe_lR4NaemDFt4HTO7Z4ttkukQvxDcbPBD2txu-wLc3Moba5o9hwkQfBeHlh/s1600/IMG_9271w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbqqh11InxF3TAVEZjc_o5yafE5CHTO3KXA9yXCpKlrM9CeTdE8YMEPuWQXXBqm8pWwwmyIFQSFhhSrjxvAe_lR4NaemDFt4HTO7Z4ttkukQvxDcbPBD2txu-wLc3Moba5o9hwkQfBeHlh/s640/IMG_9271w.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>

The kits came with everything needed, including the buttons. <br />

By the time I made them up in January, it was already starting to get warm here, so they haven't been able to wear them more than a month or so. But we did have a cold snap last week so I made sure to pull them out.brittneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02799596556725495893noreply@blogger.com1
