King of the playground.

Kids clothes week day 6, and I am still going, though I think I'll take tomorrow off as it's a family day for us around here.

Today I finished the waistband on a pair of Sketchbook shorts and knocked out a couple tees for the baby.

Again, using my all time favorite Field Trip Raglan in a size 18 months.  I can get these out pretty quick by now, though my serger came unthreaded and my regular machine was being a drama queen.  It really wanted to eat my fabric, ugh.  And, even though I bought a nice new machine a while back that has more stitches and such, it hates using my twin needle.  I finally pulled my old machine out to get these done.

Here is a better look at the vinyl, I picked it up in a facebook group and I am in love.

The neckline looks crazy in this pic, but it really isn't that bad IRL.  I assume it will calm down after going through the wash, it usually does.

I used the template from here for the airplanes and added a little embroidery applique.  The Sketchbook shorts were made at the same time as the first pair but I finished up the waistband this afternoon.

I think these two patterns go together perfectly.

For the boys.

Adding two to my total favorite pattern makes for day 3 of kids clothes week.  I find I can assembly line two items before I get bored, so I figured why not two tees, one for each boy.

Jack's is a size 7 Field Trip Raglan in a so soft Volkswagen print.  Don't let his face fool you, he was really excited for this shirt, and didn't mind taking a picture- as long as he didn't have to smile.  He's channeling his inner male model, apparently.

For the first time I didn't use ribbing on the neckline as this knit (and Sam's) was pretty stretchy.  I like the look, and was glad to not worry about trying to match perfectly, as it turns out, this white and my ribbing were two slightly different shades.

Sam's is a Riley Blake knit, they are really nice!  I made him a size 18 month.  He is a few days shy of one, but wears 18m RTW and this fits just about right, maybe a little big.

I used up a scrap of a medium weight chambray I had kicking around after making these shorts, those things held up for forever and I had to hide them when they got too tight.  I used the Sketchbook Shorts also in 18 months and they are big, he is still wearing his 12 month O+S pants, but I wanted them to last the whole summer.

I have another pair of these partially made, well mostly, just need a waistband.  On to day 4!

Itty bitty Sketchbook set.

I had a baby shower to attend this weekend, so a tiny outfit was begging to be sewn.  Don't mention that I knew about this shower for close to a month and was literally finishing up 30 minutes before it started, that's just how I  roll.

I don't know her very well, but her mother was Ben's aunt for a little while and her brother is Ben's best friend, so I for sure wanted to make her something.  But without knowing her style it was kind of hard to choose, in the end I went with a classic little boy look and something I would dress my boys in.  In fact, I almost wanted to keep it for Sam, ha!

I made the Oliver + S Sketchbook Shirt + Shorts in a gray bottom weight (denim, I think...) and a plaid seersucker-ish material.  I pretty much ironed the crap out of the shirt so it lost it's seersucker look and I didn't have time to throw it in the wash like I normally would before giving it away (I usually like to wash baby items in dreft so they are ready to wear), but I thought the material would work well since it didn't necessarily need to be ironed, most new moms probably don't want a gift that needs to be ironed, right?

I love the fun and subtle details in boys clothing.   I cut the placket and pocket on the bias, added a bit of bias tape to the pocket and snaps- because snaps on baby clothing are the bomb diggity.  So much easier than buttons when they want to be wiggly.

I loved making this shirt.  The yoke construction at first left me scratching my head, but once I figured it out I felt like a rock star! I can't wait to make this one again.

Ugh, my iron job sucked and I was trying to sneak a few pics in as quickly as possible.

I tried out my piping foot that I have had for forever, I probably shouldn't have used it on a gift for my first go.  The right side is a little too narrow.

I didn't have a matching gray thread, just lighter or darker, so we are going to pretend it was a design feature rather than my procrastination and laziness that led to this look.  I used my stretch stitch to get a more defined look since I hate topstitching thread but love the look.

Hopefully she liked it!  I had to leave before the gift opening as Sam was fussy.  And now I can't wait for Sam to fit the 6 month range!!

Sketchbook shorts.

I bought the Oliver + s Sketchbook shirt + shorts pattern last summer, but was intimidated by it at the time.  I didn't think I could do it with what little experience I had back then.  I was so silly.  These shorts are SO easy! I made a size 4 as that is what I normally make for him in the other O+s patterns, but these turned out a little tighter than planned.  (to be honest, I didn't look at the measurement chart before I cut them out).  They are fine for now, but I am almost certain they will be outgrown with in a month or two.

I used some army green bottom weight.  He has never noticed pockets until I started making his pants, now he can't get enough of them!  He was disappointed there were no "secrets" on this pair of pants (ie, different patterned waistband lining or pocket lining).

He is also wearing a field trip raglan, size 4, that I made a couple weeks back. He has no idea who Weezer is, but he loves his "flying W shirt" (what he calls it) and picks it everytime it comes out of the wash.

I chose not to do the exra topstitching around the pockets since I didn't have a thread that would match well.  I love those pleats!

The shorts are perfect for jumping on the little trampoline,

climbing over obstacles,

going super fast down the slide,

swinging,

And just running around the back yard in general.  He was so funny, "Mom, take a picture of me doing _______ " "Okay, now take one of ________" he was quite the director this time.  Oh boy, my back yard needs some TLC.  Guess what though? It is finally warm enough to wear shorts (anything over 60f is perfect) so that means it will be time for the grass to start growing again!  ... and that means it is time to sew faster, we'll really be needing shorts before you know it!
