Mini Sutton.

I have started on the kids back to school wardrobe, this year I will have 4 (!!!) in school.  So I figured I better start sooner than later.

I don't recall how I ran across the mini sutton blouse but I found it recently and couldn't stop thinking about it, so I finally gave in and bought it.

I made a size 5, Izzy (not pictured) measured right in to the 5 and George is a little bit under.  I need to try it on Iz before I cut another one, but she fell asleep after dinner so that was a no-go tonight.

It is a really simple pattern to put together, even still I managed to make a bunch of stupid mistakes.

The sleeves and neck are finished with bias tape and there are instructions for french seams on the shoulder and front.

I didn't get a great picture of the buttons, but I used these cute black and white stripe buttons, a subtle pattern mixing that makes me happy.

Hipster Rudolph.

I am not usually one to make my kids themed holiday clothing, but I couldn't resist this one. I was scrolling through Facebook yesterday morning and came upon a post for a groopdealz Rudolph shirt.  Well, I clicked through to buy it and found out it wouldn't even ship until the 17th.  Not good.  So I quit being lazy and made my own. Theirs was a white short sleeved shirt, that's the benefit of making my own, I could use what I had on hand *and* make it weather appropriate.

I used the Oliver and S Field Trip Raglan in a size 18 month and added cuffs and a waistband because I wanted to be lazy and not have to hem anything... And the pants are a pair of 2T Mini Hudson Pants.  He is still a little too small for the pants, but I have been dying to make him a pair.  Both fabrics are a french terry, I love that stuff.

And this is what happens when I attempt to flat lay in the house... I let him off without a warning because he is pretty adorable.  He was hugging the clothing and trying to put it on.  Sooooo, yeah.

In the end, I am happy I made him a themed shirt this year, and he will just have to wear it nearly every day since I waited so long to make it, haha.

Mini Hudson for school.

This week is book week at school, in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday.  In years past they have dressed up as a book character, but not this time.  This time it's things like wear a hat (two days, come on guys, be more creative), build a snowman treat in class, wear winter clothes (which is humorous being two weeks ago we were in the high 70's but we seem to have been hit by some cold weather which put us in the low 50's- still not winter), aaaand wear your jogging/exercising clothes.

Since other mini hudsons were calf length I threw her together a new pair on short notice (yesterday after school) so she could participate.  That, and I am not one to take all the kids to the store in a rainstorm.

I had this print in mind for some mini hudsons for a bit, though I was thinking calf length.  I like these, though, and so does she.  Again I made a size 10, but I added 1.5" to the length, I could have added more to make them last, apparently.  Good thing I added something!

I am sad they only go to a 10 because we will have to find another pattern to fill the void before she fits the women's sizes.

Ben says they are... very flamboyant.

That's okay, I kind of love them.  And better on her than me. I had planned to make them for the twins, but I think Abs will get more wear out of them, she loves these kind of pants and the fact they are 'trendy' now and she can get away with wearing them to school- even better in her eyes!

Side view for personal fit reference.

Same for the back.

Jack was super excited to wear his too.

Mini Hudsons.

It has been a while since I have sewn for the big girl, she has too many opinions to keep up with now and since she is at school it makes it so that I would have to remember to consult with her in advance before I start a project.  That's not really how I roll, once inspiration strikes I am all in and I don't want to wait for anything.

She will be needing shorts soon, the kids usually start wearing them end of February, beginning of March, so I actually have run a few things by her already.  One being the Mini Hudson pants.  I bought them the day they came out, I may have stalked her site waiting for them... I immediately traced off the three sizes I needed and wished they came in Sam size.  Jack has a pair that hasn't been blogged that he wears constantly, though only around the house as he and Ben deemed them pajama pants or house pants.

So last night twenty minutes before her bedtime, bored out of my mind from watching gun programs on youtube with Ben, inspiration struck.  Girlfriend would have a pair of minis by the morning.

I used this sweatshirt knit, which probably defeated the purpose of making them for warm weather, but she loves the fabric and has wanted something from it for a long, long time.  Yay for stash busting!

She wanted the light pink for the waistband and calf bands too, but I didn't have enough, so she settled with just at the pockets.

I made a size ten, which is the biggest size, I wish it went bigger and filled the gap between the mini and adult because I can see her wanting a bunch more of these.  In fact, she was SO excited when I showed her this morning and allowed her to wear them to school.  She has tried to wear pj pants or sweat pants before and I vetoed it, only allowing leggings or jeans.  But then I insisted on pictures just in case she horribly destroys them at recess or something, haha, and the sun was right in her eyes (sorry Abby!).

The material has only 5% stretch, which worried me when the pattern called for 40%-75%, but we were willing to take the risk.  These are a super quick sew, less than an hour.  I did skip the drawstring because my machine hates buttonholes on knit, but that didn't affect the fit as it is more decorative than anything.

I am tempted to make her another pair while she is at school, but I don't think I am feeling that risky, heehee.
