Skinny jeans again.

I have made the Small Fry Skinny Jeans twice now, but both times were for Sam.  I was working my way through a stack of them little by little, knowing in my head I shouldn't have cut 5 out at one time, but listening to my heart instead because, well, skinny jean rainbow.  Sam has now outgrown his orange pair and will be passed to his soon-to-be born cousin, Jack's electric blue pair didn't fit right at all, and Abby's are still only about half way done.  I really need to work on my only cutting one thing at a time, my UFO pile is becoming crazy.

I made the girls a size 3, they fit George (left) better than Iz (right), but aren't quite perfect on either of them.  They pull across the pockets for Iz and pull down their undies and show their cracks on both of the girls, maybe I need to cinch up my elastic?   I chose not to use adjustable because, 1. I couldn't find it in my mess of supplies, 2. I hate the stuff.

P.S. The girls still wear their Tiger Roller Skate almost as soon as it comes out of the wash.

They both get this weird popping on the fly too.

That really hasn't stopped either of them, though, they love the pants and wear them often, even if they get sick of me telling them to pull up their undies + pants.

The purple is a bottomweight from Jo-Anns, the pink polka dot was a twill (maybe a home dec?) from fabric.com.

Instead of using topstitching thread this time, I used my stretch stitch to give it a more defined look.  Though, I think next time I will just use the two threads through one needle method, the stretch stitch was a little difficult to keep precisely straight and it was driving me crazy.

Fall baby.

I have been sewing quite a bit, but not blogging.  Do you ever get that way?  I have always maintained I blog as my journal, to remember what I changed or kept or what I thought of the pattern, the sweet comments from people are just a bonus.  I am getting behind on my journal, but sometimes cute little kids get in the way of what I want to do, ha!

So, first up of things sewn but not blogged, an outfit for our family pictures for Sam.

I used the Charlie Sweatshirt, a free six month sized pattern.  I hemmed and hawed and struggled with what I wanted to make for him, nothing seemed quite right.  I saw this pattern two days before I needed it and printed it immediately.  The fit was spot on, I was thrilled.

Knowing I was going to pair the shirt with his orange jeans I topstitched the elbow pads (what's the technical word?) with the same orange thread I used for the pants.

This knit was awful, when I ironed it it stuck to my machine! What?! I've never had that happen.

The pants are the Small Fry Skinny Jeans size 6 months, but modified a bit.  I made them once before for Sam and absolutely loved them.  So much so, that I cut out a stack of them and have been slowly working on them.  I could never be a sweatshop worker.  I finished up all but Abby's, so at least I am close.  Jack's don't fit at all, sadly, even though he measures in to the size smaller than what I made.  Anyway, so I decided to skip the flat felled seams on the inside of the leg and took a smaller seam allowance on the sides and when sewing the back legs together to give him a little more room since my kids are apparently giants and not really made for skinny jeans.

I chose the half fly with topstitching.  I skipped the belt loops, but kept all the fun stuff like the coin pocket and lots of topstitching.

I even topstitched the back pockets, even though they totally blend in.  I couldn't help myself... I am only a little crazy, most days.

I super duper love the pants pattern and highly recommend it.  I need to sew the button hole on for the twins pants and finish up Abby's, they are all getting antsy for them!  That's what I get for showing them what's in the pipe line;)

P.S. his shoes are the moccs I made for him here.

Jeans.

Duuude!  I totally just made legit jeans, and I am so excited!

And obviously so is Sam, ha!

Back in March I bought the Small Fry Skinny Jeans (I remember it was March because we were on our first ever beach vacation, random, I know).  I bought both sizes ranges and mental noted I wanted to make them for the fall, I figured I would make a small size before tackling Abby or Jack's size.  So I made the size 3-6 month for Sam, with a half fly and lots of topstitching.  I actually used the waistband with the topstitching option, but I was so fed up with the topstitching thread by the time I got to the waistband I just did my own thing.  Which is also why I used a snap instead of a legit jean button, I had no desire to make a button hole with that thread, also the reason I left off the button loops.  My machine is such a diva.

The fit is awesome.  Seriously, this pattern is so great.  I did struggle a bit with the half fly instructions, but I figured it out and it will be much easier next time.  (I already have a red pair cut for him!)

P.S. he is wearing his Layette Bodysuit I made before he was born.

See that ugly stitching on the inside?  That isn't even the half of it.  *Sigh*.  My machine seriously hated the thread, even with a longer stitch and a denim needle.

But look at that adorable little coin pocket, and fully functioning front and back pockets... not that he will be needing them, ha!  Details are my favorite part.

I am not thrilled with the back vertical stitching, but I had no desire to unpick it for a third time and I was sick of my machine getting jammed.  I figure since he is laying on his back for 90% of the day no one will even notice (hopefully).

They are plenty long, long enough that I should probably roll them up, but I am glad because I forgot to check if I needed to add length like I usually do for my crazy tall kids.

It's a great pattern, I would definitely recommend it.
