It's never too cold for Ice Cream.

I haven't been sewing lately because, well, the kids don't need any clothes at the moment!  If I was smart I would probably start on spring sewing as our weather starts to warm in March.  This is kind of spring-ish, I suppose.

The Oliver + s Ice Cream Dress, size 2T with length.  I have made this pattern quite a few times, but it has been quite a while.  I always get nervous when it comes to attaching the back yoke so I tend to shy away from this one.

Not too bad this time though, in my opinion.  Though the corner by the button could be better, someday I will make it perfect:)

Girlfriend hearts the pockets.  She has spent all day putting toys in them.

I originally planned to use the stripes for the yoke and hem band with the flower as the body of the dress, but then I thought it would be a fun subtle detail to alternate the stripes.

I have another custom order from a friend who is heading on a Disney Cruise, I am quite excited about what she picked!   Plus, this way I can get a little sewing in while not creating more unneeded laundry for me, ha!

The new, the old, and the finally fits.

Nothing makes me happier than when my kids LOVE what I sew for them.  Sweet little Jack is always so appreciative and excited about his mommy mades, the sandbox pants from a little bit ago were no exception.

He wore them 5 days in a row!! ( and I only managed to wash them twice... but he didn't get them too dirty the other times.)  So I knew he needed another pair.  I brought out two choices, a stretch deep blue denim and some dreamy Lisette chambray.  He chose the chambray.

Oh my goodness! They are so soft.  I left the buttons off the back pockets, per his request "So I can put my hands in them ... not that he has yet to do that... But I am happy to make him happy.

Then I decided since they were pretty darn unisex to put in a Sesame Street ribbon instead of the Tonka trucks like the last pair, this way the twins can wear them someday.  Not that they couldn't with trucks in them, but I figure I will hopefully avoid a possible future tantrum.  Plus, he still likes Sesame Street.

Girlies outgrew their birthday dresses finally.  I didn't honestly know how long they would last since I made them to fit just right as they were for pictures.  The length is still perfect, but their big noggins just wont squeeze in anymore.  I *ahem* forced them on for church this day since they were their only clean dresses...  It always makes me so sad to fold away their handmades for the last time, especially ones with good memories, knowing there may not be another little munchkin to pass them on to.

But then, there is this.  Big twin now fits the knit sailboat I made 4 months ago!  Wow, I was off, turns out long sleeves would have been nice since it is cold now they can finally wear it.  Meh.  Remodel is coming along nicely, behind that new door is my new sewing closet.  YAY! A space dedicated to my hobby! It isn't very big, but it will do!

KCWC day 1.

Last year I saw the Oliver + S Ice Cream Dress in the KCWC pool  many times.  I thought it was only fitting that the pool was the reason I bought the pattern and started in on my obsession with O+S that I make one this week.  That, and I scored some AMH voile for 50% off at my local quilt shop.  Ah-mazing! I am thinking I need to go back and buy more, lots, lots more.

I have made this pattern a few times now, but never for the big girl.  While she was off at school, the babes were napping and Jack was playing quietly I got to work.  I made View C, size 6 around the chest and 10 for the length.  I thought I was being smart, making it tunic length, but no, it is just about where she likes her shirts normally.  Aaand that's what I get for drafting while she is away.

Sorry, really should have ironed better, but I didn't notice until the picture was staring at me on the computer:)  I skipped the notch this time around, I have struggles getting it to lay perfectly flat and it just drives me crazy when it's not.

I have dreams of making teal skinnies to go with it, but we will see what happens this week (still waiting on news about the house, and it is killing me!!)

And who told her she could grow up?!

In love.

Oh, I am in love, and I want everyone to know it! I was at a local book and fabric shop (odd combination) this weekend and picked up some fabric that I was oh so excited to use.  So I asked some friends what color combinations they thought would go with my prints and they had some great input.  It has been a rainy mucky day so the pictures were taken inside and don't translate quite as nice as they should.  Especially the aqua and mustard one, it looks more yellow than mustard in the picture, but it is not.  When I saw the prints they just scream Ice Cream blouse at me.  I have seen many Ice Cream tops paired with Puppet Show Shorts and I knew that was the way I wanted to go.

Both tops are 12m, lengthened for longer wear.

The shorts are both 6m.  George wears the 3-6m size in these as I recently found out and Izzy is in the 6m, but I decided to make them flat front with button elastic hoping they will still fit Georgia next spring.

As I was blog hopping the other night I ran across these shorts and loved the lace on the pockets.  I wanted something more dainty, but this is what I had in my stash and so that is what I went with.  I also used some grey linen and brown linen-look from Joann's.  I definitely prefer the linen, but they didn't have dark brown in anything but the linen-look.

I had just made the Classic Picnic shorts and had those instructions on my mind, so I knew I needed to interface the front section of the waistband, then I figured out where the side seam of the shorts would be and added a button hole on each side then put elastic in the back.

One thing that I love (one of the many) with Oliver and S patterns are the hem facings.  There isn't one on the blouse, but I drafted my own.  I love, love the look that it gives.

And two matching buttons.

Now, what to make next... ?

Happy birthday girlies!

I have been crazy busy this last week leading up to the twins birthday and was just sure I wasn't going to have the time/will to make them special birthday outfits.  (I have to sew to, remember? ;)  Buuuut, oh, about 10pm Saturday night I decided they NEEDED new dresses.  I am not crazy, right? *don't answer that*  So I gathered my materials and cut out two Oliver and S Ice cream dresses, view A minus the v and the pockets to save time, since I am crazy.  Only to realize I have misplaced my instructions. What??!!  But I had made it once before so I cautiously made the first yoke, it went perfectly so I got confidence and sped through it to the end.  I have only made view c and it doesn't have the hem facing, but luckily I have made my fair share of O+S so I was able to figure it out quickly.  So in between making sheets and sheets of cake balls I got the first one sewn up.  Then the second one got finished even quicker this morning during their nap.  Yay! They had new outfits for their party.

I didn't have time to get a hang up shot of the dressess yet, but I will:)

I made waaaay too many cake balls (and cake pops that aren't pictured) and two cakes.  The chocolate one is something I saw on pinterest.  But I failed at it.  It is a round cake with chocolate ganache poured over the top to make it look like a spilled ice cream cone.  Well, we live 25 minutes away from the in-law's and that is where we were having a combined birthday & father's day party and the ganache started to melt in the 105+ heat on the way over. Grrr. Oh well.

We let the girls go at the chocolate cake. Elizabeth went straight for the ice cream cone and pretty much stuck with that.  She took a few handfuls of cake, but not many.

George went crazy with the cake.  She doesn't usually eat much, and will stop when she is full (unlike Izzy) but she could.not.stop. with this.  Yeah, they both had a huge crash 30 minutes later.

And here is what the cake looked like after two nearly (birthday is on Monday:) one-year olds can do to a yummy cake.

Ice cream blouses.

This is the pattern that kept drawing me back to Oliver + S. The Ice Cream Dress. This is view C, made as a blouse.

This one was made from some remnants from a local quilt shop. I was still in the mindset of patterns not being sized quite right, so I made the 12m size. It was so big!! I still haven't put the button on back, but I have time, the girls are just in 6m.

This purple one was also a remnant from the same quilt shop. I picked it up for $1.50 and used every bit of it. It is from the Riley Blake halloween line, but the top just screamed Ice Cream blouse at me:) It has a nifty mustard button on the back. I love it.
